"When you look back on your life, will you be able to say, ‘Yes, I joined the pioneers of natural capitalism, and we did everything we could to make human industry a friend, not a foe, of the planet?’"

Tessa Tennant, Director, SRI Policy & Strategy, Henderson Investors, UK.

About Noveris

The Noveris Ethos

Noveris Ltd is a profit making company, however we do believe that profit should be made in such a way as to be ethical, environmentally sound and socially responsible and as transparent as possible. We believe and practice the principles of fair trade and feel that everyone has a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment and not exploit the people or natural resources of the planet.

The 'offset' Source

All of the offsets we purchase come from the Floresteca teak plantations in Mato Grosso, Brazil; some salient points about Floresteca follow.

  • The Floresteca forests have had FSC certification since 1997. FSC certification means that the forests are managed in such a way as to be ecologically sound, socially beneficial and economically viable. FSC certification is evaluated annually to maintain the highest standards.

  • Floresteca was awarded ISO-14001 in 2005 confirming the quality and efficiency of the environmental aspects of the products and services.

  • Floresteca was the first forestry company to gain the TUV Mark for “Sustainable Forestry” in the world under the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol (GHG 031). This shows that the Floresteca plantations fix CO2 and make a positive contribution to combating the greenhouse effect and climate change.

  • Floresteca have provided over 1000 jobs to local people in this highly deprived area. They also provide schools, healthcare and training as well as social and community events such as sports tournaments and social events.

  • In addition to the planting of in excess of 20,000 hectares of teak for commercial purposes (an area nearly twice the size of Paris), Floresteca have placed more than 12,000 hectares of land under permanent protection for forest regeneration.
